Eritrean Association in Greater Seattle turns 13Anniversary Dinner Party: November 24 2007
The Eritrean Association in Greater Seattle hosted an Anniversary Dinner Party on the evening of November 24 2007 at its Community Center in grand style. As the Association enters its teen years the members and their guests have a lot to thank for during this week of Thanks Giving. The four year old Community Center facility is testimony to the many achievements of the association. 13 years is a very short time relative to an organizations' life and the young organization is rightly proud as it celebrates this Rite of Passage. The MCs for the evening, Ms. Meaza Tsehaye and Mr. Solomon Afeworki led the guests through the program that followed the wonderful dinner prepared by the Association women members. As usual, the dinner was simply mouth watering Eritrean cuisine at its best. One of every one's favorite part of the program was the performance by the children from the Tigrigna language class. They led the audience in the singing of the Eritrean National Anthem and show-cased their talent with cultural dances. They were adorable!Mehari Asrat, the President of the Board came to the stage and officially welcomed the guests and thanked everyone (too many to mention here) who worked very hard to make the evening a success.Following the formal part of the program the guests were treated to an all night entertainment and danced their hearts out to the music of the great Eritrean musician Berhe Gile (Meshesh) and other local musicians. Special thanks is due to Teclesenbet Kibreab, himself a recognized musical talent, for putting the crew of entertainers together. After the birthday cake and champagne bash, the Board Secretary, Workinesh Tianen acknowledged the many members who gave financial and in kind contributions to make this a successful event. Although the main purpose of this annual dinner is to celebrate the founding of the Association, as an added bonus we raised $3020.00 after paying all expenses. A HAPPY anniversary indeed.
The music and dance continued till the wee hours of 2:00 PM. Tired but elated it was clear that the folks were ready to continue this tradition for years to come.
