The mission of the Eritrean Association in Greater Seattle is to bring community members together to meet the needs of families and individuals for networking, education, socialization, recreation and self-help support.

The Eritrean Association in Greater Seattle was established in 1994 to help Eritrean-Americans and Eritrean refugees and immigrants address their need for service, community building and mutual support. It is a 501(C)(3) non-profit community association that provides support & services, and builds community among immigrants & refugees from Eritrea. A Board of elected members governs the Association. As part of our mission we strive to build bridges and strengthen relationships with organizations that promote and support an environment for healthy communities in our region. Our mission is guided by our shared vision that each member, from the youngest to the most senior has a need to be cared for and nurtured and at the same time each one has the ability and the responsibility to contribute back to the community. To accomplish our mission, governed by the board and active voluntary participation of the members and from the community at large, the following services are provided:

  • Youth tutoring for academic achievement
  • Parenting classes
  • Classes in Tigrigna language, cultural dance and music for the youth
  • Gathering space for elders in the community
  • A computer lab and computer classes
